Manchester United signing Daley Blind has jumped to the defence of former Ajax teammate Kenneth Vermeer.
Like Blind, Vermeer left Ajax yesterday - but signed for bitter Dutch rivals Feyenoord, which has angered fans.
"He is a fantastic goalkeeper, who wants and needs to play," argued Blind.
"So when this comes your way, just before the close of the transfer market, his choice is certainly understandable."
It was revealed Vermeer had an offer from United, himself, on the weekend, but could not take it up as he had already committed himself to Feyenoord.
