Manchester United are weighing up a bid for Bayern Munich fullback Willy Sagnol.

The Daily Mail says with Gary Neville still to regain full fitness after an injury absence of more than eight months, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been alerted to Sagnol's probable availability for a knockdown fee in January.

The 30-year-old France defender would be a short-term solution to the need for cover at right back with his quality not in doubt.

Ferguson had him under close scrutiny last year and is now ready to make his move and give Neville time to complete his recovery
