Manchester United had a scout posted at Italy's U18 clash with Germany yesterday.

The game was held in Cyprus, with Germany running out comfortable 3-1 winners.

TMW says United posted their scout to check on two of Italy's young players as academy choef Nicky Butt continues to expand their recriuotment drive.

On United's radar is Inter Milan youngster Davide Merola and Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi.

Striker Merola penned pro terms with Inter last summer to 2020.
