Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal insists Paul Scholes has the right to criticise his team.
The club legend recently commented on United's form under van Gaal, saying some of their performances have been 'miserable' this season.
When quizzed on the matter, van Gaal insisted it was no problem for Scholes to judge the side despite his status as an Old Trafford legend because he is a now supporter who has the right to do so.
"I don't worry about it," he said. "It is not so interesting.
"Paul Scholes is one of the fans I hope. Fans can criticise. That is not the problem.
"I'm used to that, the players are used to that. They are not first time professional football players.
"Maybe some players it does affect, but normally it does not affect the players and me neither."
After United's lackluster 3-1 win over Burnley on Wednesday night, Scholes wrote the following his column for the Independent: "It does not give me any pleasure to say that at the moment I am struggling to watch Louis van Gaal's team with any great enjoyment.
"At times, United's football is miserable. To beat opposing teams you have to attack, and to attack you have to take risks. Too few of the players in the current team are prepared to take those risks."
Nevertheless, van Gaal's Red Devils side currently sits third on the Premier League table having lost just once in their past 15 league outings.
