Man Utd's van Gaal more than happy to remember 'Busby Babes'

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal attended a memorial service to remember the victims of the 1957 Munich air disaster.

Eight players from Sir Matt Busby's title-winning United side were killed in a runway mishap at the Munich-Riem airport on the way home from a European fixture in Belgrade and today marked the 57th anniversary of that tragic event.

Dutch tactician van Gaal was present at Old Trafford to lay a wreath and sing with supporters at the ceremony and spoke of the importance of remembering the 'Busby Babes' who were so successful for the famous club.

"I represent the club nowadays as a manager and my group of players. They were also a group of players who brought a lot of joy to the people at that time," said van Gaal.

"I think they have played a big part in the history of this club. We have to remember that always. It was impressive for all the people and also me.

"It was 57 years ago and still the people are coming and still we remember and that doesn't happen so often, so I think it's good.

"I think we have made the right decision to be there, out of respect for the players and Matt Busby, and what they left."
