Man Utd's Smalling: Scholes a positive addition

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling believes Paul Scholes will bring plenty back to the squad.

The 37-year old midfielder came out of retirement on the weekend to come off the bench in the 3-2 FA Cup third round win over Manchester City and Smalling is convinced the veteran can be of great benefit as the Old Trafford club chases a 20th league title.

"Paul is going to be real positive addition to our squad," said Smalling.

"I was disappointed when he called it a day last year. I saw first-hand the things he could do on the pitch and I know he can still do them.

"All of us were hoping he would come back and I am sure a few of the older lads have been saying things to him about it.

"It does pep up the dressing room when you see player of the calibre of Paul Scholes in there.

"It gave the young lads a lift to see him preparing for yesterday's match."
