Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney threw one of his boots to the ground in disgust after being subbed in Tuesday's Champions League win over Besiktas.
The England international was pulled off by Sir Alex Ferguson in the 63rd minute and threw a Cristiano Ronaldo-like tantrum at the treatment.
But Ferguson poured cold water over the situation, saying it was Rooney's nature to be annoyed whenever he wasn't on the pitch.
"It was always in our thoughts to freshen up in the second half," Ferguson said.
"Wayne played as a lone striker for an hour and it was always the case that he was coming off.
"Wayne is never pleased to come off. He has that kind of energy that means he wants to play all the time.
"But I always planned to make the change and bring on Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen.
"Michael needs some playing time and I'm pleased he had a hand in the making of the goal."
The move seemed to work however, as Paul Scholes netted in the 77th minute to give United a 1-0 win.
