Wayne Rooney will captain the England team in tomorrow night's World Cup qualifier with San Marino.

The Three Lions host La Serenissima at Wembley in Group H qualifying with the Manchester United striker set to take the captain's armband.

Manager Roy Hodgson is without regular skipper Steven Gerrard who is suspended whilst vice-captain Frank Lampard has been withdrawn from the squad with a knee injury.

Rooney has appeared 76 times for England and it will be his first competitive match as captain before Gerrard returns for Tuesday's trip to Warsaw to take on Poland.
