Man Utd's Rooney: 'It's one of my worst days in football'

Wayne Rooney has described Manchester United's 3-0 loss to Liverpool on Sunday was one of his worst days in football.

The Red Devils were completely outplayed by the Merseysiders at Old Trafford with Steven Gerrard scoring twice from the penalty spot and Luis Suarez adding yet another goal to his massive bundle.

Rooney was clearly despondent after the match and suggested that this particular match was one of the hardest days of his career.

"It's one of the worst days I've ever had in football," he told MUTV.

"It's hard to take. You have to give Liverpool credit - they played well - but it's difficult to take.

"Nobody wants to lose, especially in this way, in your own stadium. It's not nice."

United conceded three penalties at home, of which two were converted by Gerrard, before he missed a third when Nemanja Vidic was shown a red card for a second bookable offence when Daniel Sturridge went down in the area.

Rooney admitted they changed the context of the game but could not disagree with the decision made by referee Mark Clattenburg.

"It made it an uphill battle to come back. I thought after that we had a couple of chances where I thought, if we got one, we could have gone for a second and maybe we could have done it," he added.

"I haven't seen the penalties back again but from where I was standing on the pitch I don't think we can argue with them."
