Man Utd's Gill not happy with 2022 World Cup talk

Manchester United chief executive David Gill believes FIFA should get their story straight as debate rages on regarding the timing of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

With temperatures expected to get to 50 degrees Celsius in the Qatari summer, there has been calls to hold the tournament during winter but reaction from Europe suggests that will not occur as it messes with the traditional domestic competitions.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has already changed his stance after saying that he expected the tournament to be played in winter but soon altered his view to summer play.

Now the European Club Association, representing near 200 clubs on the continent, have said that they want the World Cup to be played in the normal timeframe and United's Gill wanted a clearer view from the sport's governing body.

"It has not been dealt with correctly," said Gill.

"There has been concern obviously in the way it has manifested itself. That is not just our view, it's the view of more than 100 clubs individually and collectively.

"This is a major thing that will have ramifications for club football for three years. For it to happen in that way was somewhat surprising.

"This is an issue that has not been dealt with correctly."
