Man Utd’s Ferguson reserves special praise for ‘marvellous’ van Persie

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has heaped praise on Robin van Persie after he fired the club to their 20th league title on Monday night.

The Dutch striker, who arrived at Old Trafford from Arsenal last summer, netted a hat-trick as United cruised past Aston Villa 3-0 to clinch the 2012/13 Barclays Premier League title.

van Persie’s second goal was a sublime volley which Ferguson rated highly and his overall performance, which saw him notch 25 league goals for the campaign, was also valued by the great Scotsman.

"It was the goal of the Century, for me, a marvellous hit,” he told Sky Sports of the goal.

Fergie added: "He has been unbelievable. His form in the first six months was fantastic. He had that spell where he had not scored a goal. Like every striker, he had a dry spell.

"But when he scored that penalty (in the 2-0 win at Stoke City on April 14), I thought, 'he is alive now'. Tonight, he was unbelievable, marvellous."
