Sir Alex Ferguson says he was happy to offer striker Michael Owen a one-year deal to remain with Manchester United.
The former Liverpool star agreed to remain at Old Trafford today just when it seemed as though he would be released when his contract expired and Ferguson admits Owen may be given more chances next term.
"Michael has proved to be a top footballer," said Ferguson. "It is unfortunate that he did not get more opportunities but the form of Chicharito (Javier Hernandez) put everyone in the shade and his partnership with (Wayne) Rooney proved invaluable.
"I am delighted Michael is staying for a further year and we will look to give him more opportunities in the new season."
