Man Utd's Ferguson blasts 'kamikaze spending'

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has blasted what he calls 'kamikaze spending'.

The Scotsman says the amount of money some clubs are paying for players these days is turning the transfer market into a joke but stopped short of naming names.

However, it was quite clear Ferguson was having a go at crosstown rivals Manchester City after spending £130million this summer.

"Over the last two or three years we have seen very wealthy owners become part of football clubs," Ferguson said.

"They go on this kamikaze effort to spend their money.

"It is amazing the amounts of money being bandied about.

"I don't see it abating. I think the kind of spending we are seeing will be here for two or three years.

"Or until such time as they understand you can't necessarily achieve all the time by spending."
