Man Utd's Ferguson backs Ferdinand for England's Euros squad

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes that centre-back Rio Ferdinand should be included in the England squad for this summer's European Championships.

The 33-year old has been left out of recent Three Lions squads by Fabio Capello and Stuart Pearce but Ferguson feels that new manager Roy Hodgson should include him for Euro2012.

"He [Ferdinand] has done fantastic this season," Sir Alex told Sky Sports.

"Experience is going to be important in the European Championships.

"You have John Terry and Rio Ferdinand and Gary Cahill. Then you have (Phil) Jones and (Chris) Smalling. There is not a lot after that."
