Man Utd's Ferdinand wishes Terry well after England captaincy swap

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has wished Chelsea counterpart John Terry well after the latter was handed the England national team captaincy.

Three Lions boss Fabio Capello has decided to end the injured Ferdinand's short run as skipper and hand the armband back to Terry, who was stripped of the role after his affair with former teammate Wayne Bridge's then girlfriend came to light about a year ago.

But Terry insists that Ferdinand has only had supportive words for his England teammate who will lead the side against Wales in Cardiff on Saturday.

"Rio called me after the game (Chelsea v Man City) on Sunday and goes to show what a great man he is. He texted me before the game and called me afterwards," Terry said.

"We had a 10 minute conversation and wished me well. I did the same with him when I lost the armband.

"I feel for Rio. Even though I've got the armband back I've seen we've got some great leaders and we need to go forward now and move on.

"Naturally he is disappointed but the main thing he said to me was the England keep winning matches."
