Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has played down claims that he has been involved in the transfer speculation surrounding Arsenal's Samir Nasri.
The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the last week or so and the link has gained plenty of headlines around the world.
Comments about Nasri made by Ferdinand have resurfaced but the Red Devils star says that he has not spoken about the former Marseille man since his name has been linked with United.
"Samir Nasri is an excellent player...for me, he is one of the best players right now," Ferdinand initially said.
He has posted on his Twitter page that he did speak about Nasri but has made it clear that it was a while ago, well before the interest of his club.
"My quotes about Samir Nasri are not recent (not that the papers let u know this) I spoke about him waaaaay before any speculation started," he Tweeted.
