Manchester United have suffered an injury blow with Michael Carrick ruled out for six weeks.

The Daily Mail says Carrick had treatment in a Manchester hospital on Tuesday to correct an Achilles problem after withdrawing from Roy Hodgson's England squad for the friendlies against Chile on Friday and Germany next Tuesday, and is expected to be sidelined until Christmas.

The news comes at the worst possible time for United manager David Moyes, whose side have reversed worrying early-season results with a nine-match unbeaten run.
