Manchester United are confident of securing a deal for Toby Alderweireld this summer, according to The Independent.

United have not enjoyed much success in negotiating with Daniel Levy in recent years.

They attempted to sign Eric Dier last summer, but eventually turned their attention to Nemanja Matic.

But the case with Alderweireld is different, as he can leave for a reduced fee next summer if Spurs trigger an option to extend his contract by another year.

It means the coming weeks are Spurs last chance to get a big fee for a player who does not want to sign a new deal.

Alderweireld is on holiday after the tournament and United will want a deal done before he returns to Spurs for training.
