Man Utd to release Owen to make room for Welbeck

Manchester United are set to release striker Michael Owen.

The People says Owen is set to make way for Danny Welbeck.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson would have trouble finding a role for Owen next year, as he rewards striker Welbeck, 20, for an impressive loan spell at Sunderland, where he scored six league goals.

The Black Cats would like England Under-21 forward Welbeck to return - but Ferguson wants him in his squad and may sacrifice Owen, whose two-year contract has come to an end.
