Borussia Dortmund management insist they want to keep hold of Ilkay Gundogan.

The Germany international is interesting Manchester United and Real Madrid ahead of the summer market, but is struggling to overcome a back problem.

"The fact is we would like to extend Ilkay Gundogan's contract, it is clear," BVB chief Hans-Joachim Watzke confirmed. "But there is always more to it.

"We also have a certain degree of respect for his long medical history, which of course troubles him and why he wants to look further, in relation to his fitness."

Watzke added: "We will use the next few weeks together to make a decision and we are in contact with Ilkay and his family, who also advises him."
