Manchester United and Real Madrid have been encouraged in their pursuit of Sporting CP winger Gelson Martins.
Sporting are attempting to secure Martins to a new deal amid major transfer interest.
Correio da Manha says discussions have come to a halt, with Martins' agent, Ulisses Santos, rejecting Sporting's proposal via email.
He is unhappy with the fact his client will still be one of the least paid players at the club — and has rejected a deal on the table worth around £4,000-a-week.
However, they add that Sporting president, Bruno de Carvalho, denies any hitch in the negotiations.
The departure of Joao Mario to Inter Milan has allowed Martins to step into his own — with boss Jorge Jesus even claiming: “In Portugal, there is no one like him."
Martins impressed at the Bernabeu as Sporting came close to causing a major Champions League upset — and his performances have led to interest from United and Real Madrid, reports The Sun.
Furthermore, he has since earned his first call up to the Portuguese national team.
