Manchester United are prepared to test Tottenham's resolve with a bid for Danny Rose.
The Manchester Evening News says United are keeping tabs on Rose's situation with a view to possibly bidding for him next summer if Shaw fails to convince Mourinho in his fourth season at Old Trafford.
United have also scouted Celtic's 20-year-old left-back Kieran Tierney - who is being watched by Spurs in the event Rose leaves the club. Tierney, 20, would prefer to join United.
Rose, 27, expressed his frustration at Spurs' nine-year trophy drought in May and demanded the club make a 'marquee signing' to 'push forward'. Rose opined Spurs 'have to do a lot better' after falling short in their title duel with Chelsea last season.
Doncaster-born Rose could be tempted by a move to United partly due to his northern roots.
