Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is pursuing a deal for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl.

Weigl is seen by Mourinho as an alternative to Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic.

The Daily Mail says United are considering a move for the Dortmund star, despite his broken ankle suffered in May.

Weigl will be sidelined until mid-September, meaning he would miss the start of the new season at either the Westfalenstadion or Old Trafford.

His injury has seen Manchester City and Barcelona end interest for now, with United persisting.
