Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson may drop his bid for Everton fullback Leighton Baines.
The People says Chelsea fullback Ashley Cole wants to speak with Manchester United about a Bosman move.
Ferguson is still keen on Baines, Cole's England understudy, but is unlikely to pay big money for him if he can land Cole on a free. Baines, 28, is also wanted by Chelsea and Arsenal.
