Manchester United are ready to make an opening offer for AS Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman.
Calciomercato.com says the midfielder was wanted at United by David Moyes, but now Strootman's former international manager in Louis van Gaal looks likely to also chase him.
However, Strootman will not come cheap. It is believed he could cost United up to 40million, as Roma look to keep all of their team together as they rally towards the Serie A title.
Van Gaal will want to strengthen his team in January and is now said to be preparing an opening bid to try and lure him to Old Trafford.
