Itandje, also a target for Olympique Lyon, is ready to continue his career abroad and French sources say United are considering a move for the shot-stopper as they seek cover for No1 Edwin van der Sar.

Itandje's agent said: "We have rather concrete openings in Spain and England. By the weekend, I have high hopes that everything will advance in a significant way."

The goalkeeper has also been linked with Aston Villa.
