Manchester United are believed to be leading the race to sign Thomas Vermaelen from Arsenal.
Sky Sports suggests that the Red Devils are in pole position to land the Belgian centre-back despite the fact that Barcelona made a £10million offer on Tuesday.
Gunners skipper Vermaelen has been linked with an Emirates Stadium departure for most of the summer and it appears as though he will be moving on after making just seven Premier League starts last term.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger recently suggested that Vermaelen could be sold in the current transfer window further adding to the speculation of a shift to rivals United.
