Manchester United are ready to make Real Madrid star Gareth Bale the most expensive signing in the game. The Daily Star says United will attempt to sign former Tottenham star Bale in a world-record transfer at the end of the season after giving up on Real Madrid team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo.
Louis Van Gaal will now instead focus on taking Bale back to the Premier League, with the player failing to grasp Carlo Ancelotti's latest change in formation.
The Italian splashed the cash on the likes of James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos after the World Cup in Brazil, and Bale has now been given extra defensive responsibilities out on the right-wing.
The Welshman is currently in his second season with the Champions League holders, joining a year ago for £85million, but reports in Spain claim that Ancelotti is open to letting him leave at the end of the campaign as he looks to tighten up his midfield.
