Manchester United are launching a bid for Inter Milan fullback Douglas Maicon. Corriere dello Sport says Maicon, in South Africa with Brazil's Confederations Cup squad, is aware that United boss Sir Alex Ferguson wants to sign him.

Real Madrid have indicated they're willing to offer £18 million for the right-sided defender, however Ferguson is preparing to outbid United's rivals with a £22 million cash proposal.
