Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said he would love for Carlos Tevez to remain at the club past the end of this season.
Recent reports have suggested that the Argentine would end up at cross-town rivals Manchester City because United did not want to pay the full amount for him after his loan deal had expired.
Ferguson confirmed that a new offer was in the pipelines for Tevez.
"He knows I want him to stay," Ferguson told Sky Sports after Tevez had scored in the Red Devils 2-1 win over Wigan on Wednesday night.
"I had a chat with him today and [chief executive] David Gill has had some meetings and I'm sure it will progress further.
"We hope we get where we want to get.
"I'm sorry I have to keep on going on about this, it has never changed.
"We're not negotiating with a football club - that's the problem. I think Carlos himself is okay. The terms he's been offered are good, so we'll see."
