Mike Phelan says his role at Manchester United hasn't changed, despite being promoted to assistant manager.

"I am a coach," he said. "That is what I do. I suppose there will be times when I hand the reins over to a coach who gets on with certain things while I talk to the manager during sessions and I will have more input so my decisions get heard more.

"But my life has not changed. I know the players and they know me, so it should be a decent marriage."

"I am not like the manager that is for sure. Could there be two anyway?" laughed Phelan.

"I have not managed for a start and clearly, he makes the big decisions, that has always been the case. I just see this as an extension to my coaching duties."
