Manchester United No2 Mike Phelan admits Dimitar Berbatov needs to be driven to produce top quality performances.

Berba impressed in Wayne Rooney's absence for United's 3-1 win over Tottenham on Saturday.

Phelan said: "A lot's been said about Berba and we know the qualities Berba's got. All we ask from Dimitar is a little bit of something else that we haven't seen for a while and he can do that, we've seen him do it in the past and when we keep pushing him and pushing him and he responds the right way, he' a handful for anybody (is) Berba and I thought in particular in the second half he did well up front.

"Berba's a great talent, there's no question about that. As coaches, as managers, we demand more from great talents. If you look at the likes of the Giggs', the Scholes', we demand from them as well and they produce. Berba's no different in that respect and when he shows the form that he's in today, he's enjoyed himself and he's created opportunities, he's been unlucky with a couple of shots and we're pleased for him."
