Man Utd midfielder Pearson scores and spies Barnsley stay after win

Manchester United midfielder Ben Pearson added to his reputation with a goal in Barnsley's win over Gillingham.

Pearson, hailed by some Tykes fans as the best defensive midfielder in League One, struck in the 2-0 win.

He opened the scoring in the 18th minute after an innocuous free-kick was only partially cleared. The ball fell to the on-loan Manchester United midfielder 20 yards out and he fired the ball low to Stuart Nelson's right leaving the Gills keeper stranded.

Just last week, Pearson told the Barnsley Chronicle: "I don't want to go back and sit in the reserves in January. I will be looking to stay in first team football. Hopefully that is at Barnsley but it is not my decision. I don't know whether I will go out on loan again or move permanently, it depends on United."
