Man Utd midfielder McTominay: I only ever wanted to play for Scotland

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay insists he's always regarded himself as Scottish.

McTominay, who was born in Lancaster to a Scottish father, chose to commit to Scotland over England last week.

"The manager (Alex McLeish) travelled a hell of a long way to come and speak to me and I have to thank him for that," said McTominay.

"But the conversation we had was relatively simple - I wanted to play for Scotland and I always have done since I was a young boy.

"It was an incredibly proud moment when he did call me up.

"My dad (Frank) was tremendously proud of me and so were the rest of my family. It's a big honour to come here with the Scotland national team. That's what you work for your whole life, from when you are a young kid.

"I have to thank the boss, Alex McLeish, for giving me an opportunity to come with the squad and hopefully show people what I can do. Hopefully I can play well."
