Man Utd midfielder Carrick grateful to Ferguson for career success

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick admits he owes his career success to manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Carrick acknowledges the positive impact the hugely experienced Ferguson has had on his career at United.

"He knows how to react and how to get the best out of players," said the 31-year-old. "Whether it's a pick me up and pat on the back or a bit of a dressing down and a kick up the backside.

"That's what top management is about and to do it for that long is incredible."
