Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is expected to be axed from England's World Cup squad.

The Daily Star says Carrick looks like being the major casualty when Fabio Capello names his final 23 for the World Cup.

The Manchester United midfielder did not feature yesterday against Japan in Graz.

And with it appearing likely that Manchester City's Gareth Barry will be fit enough for inclusion, it is Carrick who could get the chop instead of Tom Huddlestone, the Tottenham midfielder.
