Man Utd manager Ferguson slams Champions League shake-up plans

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is no fan of plans to expand the Champions League.

The Frenchman is considering scrapping the Europa League and expanding the hugely successful main event.

But Ferguson, anxious to win that giant pot again before he retires, said: "You would have thought the Champions League was perfect.

"I think it will be encouraging for Platini that some of the smaller clubs are doing well in the competition. He's a football man, he must have some concrete ideas that would improve it.

"But maybe they wouldn't suit some of the big clubs because it would mean more football and how would you handle your players? You've got South Americans playing internationals every summer, the African Nations Cup again in January and too much football. It impacts somewhere.

"In any case, Platini is talking about 2014 - will I be here then?"
