Man Utd manager Ferguson: De Gea not bothered by media scrutiny

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson says David De Gea has been unaffected by the media scrutiny he has come under this past week.

Fergie claims his young Spanish keeper has not been protected by referees so far but expects that to change tomorrow night when De Gea makes his home debut against Tottenham.

The United boss said: "David has not mentioned the criticism. He's been fine with his training and I have no problem with him.

"I think a couple of the goals he has conceded have been down to concentration but Schmeichel went through the same baptism of fire.

"He went to Wimbledon and was squealing like a pig for protection from Vinnie Jones, Alan Cork and John Fashanu. They were all piling on top of him, kicking lumps out of him.

"As for David, he is only 20 and he can deal with balls played into the box.

"The problem is that he has had no protection and that's disappointing. He's had players under his body and taken an elbow in the face - which was bad.

"Away from home, he might be subjected to things like that.

"But we are at home on Monday night, so there will be no problem there."
