Manchester United management were disappointed by Carlos Tevez's decision to quit last week.

A senior United insider told the Sunday Mirror: "We were not willing to get involved in a bidding war with Manchester City and Chelsea for Tevez.

"Tevez's decision came as a surprise given the team's success in the two years he has been at the club."
