Manchester United are stepping up their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Mail on Sunday says meetings last week have established Aubameyang as the No 1 target for the summer and United are confident they can sign the striker as long as Real Madrid don't make a bid.
Real Madrid are monitoring potential centre forwards and want to sign Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich but may not be able to prise him from the Bundesliga club, meaning Aubameyang, who has scored 36 goals in 42 appearances would become an alternative.
Sources close to the negotiations having been told that Jose Mourinho will be manager if Louis van Gaal finishes outside the top four, an increasingly-likely prospect.
