A Bola says United had scouts posted on the weekend to see Porto's 1-0 defeat to Academica.
United reps were again making a check on France defender Eliaquim Mangala and his Porto teammate Alex Sandro, the Brazilian left-back.
AS Monaco also had scouts present to watch Mangala.
