Manchester United made an offer for Atletico Madrid defender Lucas Hernandez last month, it has been revealed.
Marca says Lucas turned down a lucrative move to United last month.
At the start of August, United were willing to activate Lucas' €80m buyout clause and offered to double his salary if he moved to Old Trafford.
The player is understood to have mulled over the offer for a few days before eventually turning it down in order to stay at Atletico, where he came through the ranks.
The World Cup winning France international, who is under contract until 2024, has also attracted strong interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester City in recent seasons.
