Man Utd legends Scholes, Ferdinand show support for Mourinho defensive tactics

Jose Mourinho has been given the backing by Manchester United greats Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand to continue his tactics away from home.

The Portuguese was heavily criticised after he set up his team to 'park-the-bus' at Anfield last Saturday.

But both Scholes and Ferdinand are both agree that the point earned from the 0-0 draw could eventually help them win the title.

"I think it is now, probably two, three or four years ago maybe not. I think it is now because of the position they have been in," replied Scholes on BT Sport.

"They haven't been in a position to win the league. I'm not saying they are in a position to win the league now, it's very early, but to go to Anfield is very difficult.

"If you go toe to toe with a team like Liverpool at their place, you know they're a good team, you could get hurt.

"You could win the game, don't get me wrong, you could score goals, but I think that was a typical Man United performance really, he got everything organised and defended brilliantly well and got the point they needed."

Rio Ferdinand, who played alongside Scholes at Man United added: "If we went there and got a point we'd say 'that's a point that we can go on with and win the league'."
