Man Utd legend Yorke: Being axed by Keane at Sunderland was brutal

Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke admits his treatment at Sunderland by former teammate Roy Keane was "brutal".

Yorke, now retired, told TalkSport: "When you look back at it probably was (pretty brutal). That's the nature of Keane. He called me up in his office one morning and it was work as normal and I thought everything was fine because I was playing in the team. I had played well exceptionally well against Newcastle, we had beaten Newcastle then e got beat at Stoke and I think we held Arsenal to a draw as well but it was pretty decent for us at the time and then he came and called me up to his office.

"I was like 'right, he is going to ask me do something' or whatever it was and he said 'listen, as a manager I've got to make some decisions' and I said I respected all of that. He said I'm not going to let you train with us, you will train with the reserves' and that was the incident and I looked at him and said 'what have I deserved here?' I had played the last two games but he said he had to make decisions and that's 'what I've got to do but unfortunately I want you to train with the reserves'.

"So I can respect that but I didn't agree with what he said but he just said he was being paid to make tough decisions and that's decision he had to make and then after all that I walked downstairs and there was a meeting there. They were assembling all the players because things weren't great and I walked into the meeting and he was entering from the other side and he said, 'Yorkie, you are not even in this meeting, go and train with the reserves'."
