Man Utd legend Schmeichel sees Kasper star in Notts County FA Cup win

Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel was at the DW this week to see Wigan Athletic dumped out of the FA Cup by Notts County.

Schmeichel was checking on son Kasper, who was outstanding between the posts for the Magpies.

"It was good to have my dad here," said 23-year-old Kasper, who was at Wembley for all three of Dad's FA Cup triumphs with Manchester United.

"He comes to as many games as he can. We had a chat when I signed my first contract. He asked me what capacity would I like him as, and I said I wanted him as my dad. I didn't want to sacrifice my relationship with him.

"I've watched what he used to do but I watch a lot of keepers."

Leaving Manchester City for a club three rungs down the football ladder might not be everybody's idea of a wise career move, but Schmeichel Jnr added: 'I fought for two years to get away from Man City to play football.

"I could easily have stayed and lived the life, but I wasn't interested. I love football.

"I was so lucky to have been allowed to go with my dad to training and to see the likes of Giggs, Beckham, Cantona and Keane, and their passion for the game.

"It rubbed off on a kid of my age. Going to Notts County was a drop down but for me it's not a sacrifice. It's better than sitting and doing nothing."
