Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has hailed the influence of Wayne Rooney on the current team.

He told the Sunday Telegraph: "I think it's a great team with great individuals who stick together and I can't praise Rooney enough. He's a star player, gets paid I don't know what and is loved by everybody, he's an England striker but he's stuck out on the right wing tonight for tactical reasons and he just goes about his job.

"He hasn't had a touch of the ball for 20 minutes but he works so hard and he does it for the team. That's the kind of team they are. I'm very proud of them."
