Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel is in talks with Sporting CP.

Correio da Manha says Schmeichel is set to embark on a coaching career after talks with Sporting.

The Dane looks set to accept a goalkeeping coach role with the Portuguese side.

A deal was "very close" to take the 54-year-old back to Lisbon after a spell as a player there.

Schmeichel played for the Lions between 1999-2001, making 66 appearances.

Schmeichel's former manager in Lisbon, Augusto Inácio, is now a club director and has been instrumental in negotiations.
