Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel feels their youngsters can benefit from tonight's Champions League clash at Galatasaray.

The likes of Nick Powell and Danny Welbeck are set to start in Istanbul.

"Those games in 1993 were the foundation for what we managed to do in the Champions League later on," Schmeichel told the Daily Mail.

"It was a point we could go back to. You could look at that and say this is what we did wrong and we never want to do that again.

"The manager didn't have to tell us anything. It was something we had been through and we could deal with it of our own accord."
