Manchester United legend Bryan Robson feels Paul Scholes is the ideal mentor for Tom Cleverley.

Robson thought Cleverley was outstanding for Sunday's derby win over Manchester City.

Cleverley has just two goals to his name so far and adding goals to his armoury is an area the player himself sees as vital to his progress.

"It is perfect for Tom as there is nobody better to learn from than Paul Scholes," Robbo told the Manchester Evening News.

"Scholesy is a clinical finisher and studying him in training at Carrington can only help Tom.

"He's a conscientious lad who wants to improve because he wants to be in the United side every week.

"If he adds a little composure to his finishing then his output will increase because he does get into those areas to score.

"But these things are just little tweaks to help him. For me, last Sunday can be a big factor in Tom's game and his future."
