Manchester United legend Bryan Robson says Paul Pogba should be the club's captain next season.
Michael Carrick's retirement means United boss Jose Mourinho must choose a new skipper.
And Robson told the Manchester Evening News: "Chris Smalling did well when he was handed the armband at certain times last year and Valencia was captain for a lot of last season. But, I think maybe he should give it to someone like Paul Pogba.
"It might mature him a little bit more and give him a little bit of enhancement in his game. I think Paul has the got that leadership talent so it will be interesting to see what the manager does next season."
He added: "I think Paul is a top-class player, even if you look at France's first game in the World Cup.
"He created the opportunity for the penalty and scored the winner.
"He is a top talent and there's more to come from him from a United point of view. But I think some of the criticism towards him is quite harsh."
